I am moving right along on this.

Ok, for those who asked:

Shades of Mediocrity takes place ten years in the future.  Nine states of the Northeast have seceded from the Union, and become the Northeastern American States.  Recognized by nations across the world, but certainly not by the US President, a man named Halpern, representative of the Fundamentalist party (a result of the 2010 split of the Republicans, forming the Conservative and Fundamentalist parties in the process), we meet Marcus Noble, an average citizen living in the new nation.  As the story opens, we learn that California, Oregon and Washington will be voting to secede as well, becoming the Pacific Coast Coalition.  Marcus witnesses a man get gunned down on the Delaware River, and winds up with a briefcase - a briefcase with all kinds of plans from the US Government.

Marcus soon learns that he has not come by this briefcase by chance - he is, in fact, a sleeper agent of the Northeaster Security Bureau, the NAS's equivalent of both the CIA and FBI.  No longer the simple administrative assistant he believed he was, Marcus has to unlock the clues that will reveal President Halpern's reaction to the probable secession of the Pacific coast states, and he has to find a way to stop him from committing atrocities that will rip the already divided continent apart beyond everyone's worst fears.

At least, that's where I think I'm going with this.

More to follow as I write it!

Sounds great.. One could almost believe that the west would secede before the NE though... but you never know, with MA being the hotbed for freedom that it is...

Great concept... nice that you can add that layer of history political reflection to the novel as well.
