Worth a shot

Ok, everyone, I am going to make a request.
Let's be blunt - things are pretty awful just now. Jobs are being lost all over the place, the economy is tanking, money is being thrown around and wasted by entities big and small. And this is, at least for me, not just something on the news I read or hear about daily - it's struck on a personal level. Friends are losing jobs, I am still not working, and other friends of mine are beset by some scary stuff because of an insane person's demands.
SO - the request. Take a moment. Take a break from it all. The bad news, the sadness, the pain, and think about ONE THING that still brings you joy, that makes you happy. Take a moment, consider what that one thing might be - and then give it focus, give it some attention. Focus on something other than the negative.
Post it to your LJ - or don't. Doesn't matter. But if we ALL change our outlook, I believe we can begin to change the world.
Start small.
Pass it on. Thanks!

I woke up this morning with a very soft Mouse against my bare tummy. Soft MouseMouseMouse!! I love him so much.
And he is healthy and happy and purry, at age 10 and going strong. :)
He is my Happy Thought, just like in Peter Pan. I think everyone needs a Happy Thought.

Date: 2009-01-29 01:33 pm (UTC)Yes, it's a bad economy. Yes, some people I know have lost their jobs. That happens. I'm hopeful that they find something soon and that they were adequately prepared for such a contingency. But a lot of them are looking at it as an opportunity for something better.
I think there's a lot more doom and gloom being shoved at us than might really be warranted. Fear sells, and the media is troweling it out by the bucketload.
Part of fear is around one's own vulnerability. Are you spending more than you earn and therefore are already on the cliff's edge? Are you managing your finances well? If you are, you're more calm about this kind of thing.
I'm not trying to dismiss your point - far from it. What I'm saying is that the fear and negativity can be coming from outside (in which case, don't let it) or inside (in which case, if you fix the things that are giving you grief, you feel better).
I direct y'all to this - it's a great, friendly little personal finance blog and he had an article touching on this lately.

Date: 2009-01-29 05:54 pm (UTC)I have friends who care and who were thrilled that this meant I could come home.
Fencing practice here has been even more awesome than I remembered.
Overall, I think this qualifies as mostly good... before we get to the whole blushing and giggling bit.
