Please visit the link for the following blog entry from [livejournal.com profile] kass_rants of Reconstructing History.  Very cool idea!

Wow.  In just one week we will be on the last day of 2009.  And I am ok with this.  While 2009 was certainly not a good year for ME, I have a number of friends for whom it has been far worse.  The year's end will be well celebrated.  I am hoping that 2010 will be a much better year for us all!

But tonight is Christmas Eve.  Now as a Jew, this has always been just another holiday that afforded me a day off.  But the spirit of the season - not the commercialism and the endless BAD music - I'm talking about the spirit of generosity and peace and harmony - has always made me feel content.  I am working on a positive attitude, looking forward to a coming good year - for everyone!

May all of you have peace.  I hope that whatever holiday you may choose to celebrate - be it Christmas, Channukkqah, Yule, Festivus, Kwanzaa, or the Pasta Feast of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (because there needs to be SOME holiday for the FSM) - I hope that you have a good one, filled with love and peace and happiness and all that other sappy stuff.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

Saturday I joined many of the TOADS to go to a demo/Renn faire thing in Long Valley, NJ. It was fairly nice, even if it was a VERY small, poorly attended event (weather was not so hot). But it was nice to hang out with friends.

Yesterday I went hiking at Flat Rock Brook Nature Center. Hard to believe that this place exists - on the outskirts of Englewood! It's about 15 minutes from my house - and beautiful! So of course - took a LOT of photos.

Photos below the cut! )

Last, but not least - a shot I know [livejournal.com profile] nauraki  will particularly appreciate:

I will probably post more shots to my Facebook.

Nine Years

Today is November 30th. In addition to being the birthdays of my stepmother and [livejournal.com profile] unicornpearlz, today is also the 9th anniversary of my accident.

Hard to believe it's been 9 years already. But it has. And on the plus side - I barely noticed today's passing.

Used to be, for a host of reasons, I avoided this day. Tried to hide from it, really. But I'm past that now. Still...it gives a person pause.

For anyone unaware of what I am talking about above - November 30, 1999 - I was struck by a car while crossing a street a quarter mile from home. It was a hit-and-run.  My right leg was shattered at the tibia, and my right clavical was shattered as well, resulting in a stretching of the brachial plexus and nerve damage. This is why my right leg has one fused bone where there should be a tibia/fibula, and my right shoulder is made of titanium now.

I spent the next year between surgeries, hospitals, and various forms of physical therapy working hard to recover.  And beyond a lot of what was expected, I recovered completely.  Sure I have some wild scars and some range-of-motion issues in my ankle, but I can fully use my arm, and I can walk without a limp.  I can even run.

My life was forever changed on that day.  But in many ways, it was changed for the better.  I learned a great deal about myself I did not know before, and about the human spirit.  And support of friends and family.

I just couldn't let today go completely unnoticed.  And I am so very grateful for my amazing doctors and therapists who worked with me to get me to where I am now.  And I am grateful to my friends and family for their support as well.

You can never show too much true gratitude, nor say thank you too many times.

It was a good war.  Albeit a wet, hot, sticky one.  I saw old friends, made some new friends, and had an absolutely wonderful time overall.  Yes, the weather most certainly could have been better, and I would like to have fenced more - but it was still a great time.

I love camping in Sharc Pit.  You guys are the best, and make the war for me.  Really.  I spent a lot of time in camp this year with the rain, and it was time well spent.  Amazing how many attempts to use accio and other HP spells were made this year, though...

Yes, we were slaughtered in the wall and the woods battles - but they still had to work for it.   [personal profile] artisticphoenix  was an excellent general - the odds were most certainly not in her favor.  And our champions won, which was great.  I didn't get to fight, but  [profile] ogedei  said our fight got him warmed up the right way, so he could perform the slaughter that he did.  Excellent!

[profile] lady_catwings  was with us, and it was great to have here there from Artemisia.  Always fun to have her around.  Now, of course, I'll have to go to Estrella again.  Oh, horrors.  Not.

Wandering the bog with  [profile] caitlindancer  and  [profile] firebow  and  [profile] little_rowan  was much fun, too.  I love my friends!

Still sorry  [personal profile] lumineaux  could not be there - missed you and the dramatic readings!  Also missed Edmund and Emeline, but looking forward to meeting Gabriel.

There is more, of course, but I'll do a longer post eventually.  Gotta head out to dinner now.
