...or is it rather ironic to have a restaurant named Veggie Heaven, featuring no meat whatsoever - but the chairs you seat your customers on are leather?

Not pleather?

That is bizarre though.

It was the smell of the leather that first drew my attention, actually. :-)

Apparently leather is permissible if it is "recovered" leather, meaning leather salvaged from other things. Or if the chairs were bought second hand.

Except, of course, if you are a rabid weenie vegan. Then all bets are off.

I'd be there with ya - if the look and smell were not so clearly new. Tremendous irony. :-)

Did you ask anyone about it? Did you say anything? Throw a huff at them, it might be fun.

I just had a good laugh at their expense. And then shared with everyone here.

Wow, I NEVER noticed that about Veggie Heaven before (LOVE that place). That does seem really wrong. They should have hemp chairs.

Is the restaurant just vegetarian (with cheese and dairy but no meat) or totally vegan? For most non-vegan vegetarians, leather is ok (I think of it as sort of a by-product of the meat industry, so I'll buy leather shoes and belts if I know I'll wear for a long time (of course some will argue that buying it subsidizes the meat industry rather than call it a by-product...)). Though still an odd choice for chairs when they could go with something less animally AND easier to clean.

That really does seem weird, yes.
