fencerm2: (Business me)

Today [livejournal.com profile] krystinia introduced me to the Denville Chamber or Commerce.  It was my first official pitch as a business entity.

I have received notice that I am a registered business with the state of New Jersey.

AND - I give you my web page:

Awesome. Don't you just love having to jump through hoops for the State of NJ Business Registration? (I had to do this for my boss, due to NJ Dept of Treasury rules about businesses from out of state doing business in their state with the gov't).

Seriously though, good start to your page, very legible. I would have picked a softer or more conservative blue, but that's just my personal preference - and I like that it's easy to see what your company is selling. :)

Ad copy is uber-important these days. Not enough people (on Etsy at least) pay enough attention to that vital part of putting one's best foot forward in marketing or self-representation as an artist, just to name a couple of examples.

Good luck! :D
(And have you registered the name yet?)

Following [livejournal.com profile] nazrynn's suggestion, I would recommend a faint watermarked logo on all the pages (background image?), to keep the image/idea in the viewer's subconcious.

If registered the business with the state (not a big deal, as a sole proprietorship) and the trade name. I don't need to register the name unless I go LLC down the line (which I might).

Congrats.. Looks good, although your pic on your "about" page seems to be "off" in perspective. It looks like your head & body are "squished" vertically. (Viewing thru IE 7)

It has a similar effect in firefox. It's the way he's leaning in towards the camera. Sitting up straight would probably fix the perspective issue, but would create more of a sense of distance with the viewer.

I agree that it looks weird. I think it's because you are leaning forward with your hand under your chin. Have a headshot taken sitting up straight without the hand there. Maybe have Liam take it.

And congrats on setting up your own business. Good luck.

I noticed that also last night but I wasn't sure if it was just me because I was pretty tired.

It looks like you have the width and height set to specific values in the HTML, and the ratio of those values probably doesn't match the correct aspect ratio of the original image. If you only specify a set value for width or height, the browser should adjust the other value automatically so that the aspect ratio is maintained.

If I'm wrong on this, hopefully someone will correct me, but I'm pretty certain this works because I do this all the time on LJ to include pics in entries without them being huge.

This HTML stuff gets easier over time, I swear.

Great photo of you, you look very professional. The page is sparse but to-the-point. However, your claim that "I built my own home computer" could probably be worded to state that you have built custom computers from scratch, or some such...

Just my 2cp.

I'd imagine your customer base will likely consist of 'fringe' small businesses; food co-ops, yoga studios, small shops, etc, so I'd target my advertising towards these types of places (if you haven't already).

Good luck with this!
