Please be forewarned - this is my first public rant about a relatively touchy subject - politics. But it is to voice opinions on topics of this nature that I created the new blog in the first place.
This link will take you to a political rant.

Date: 2010-05-01 01:39 pm (UTC)You're right and wrong. You're right the system is broken and has been for quite some time. Politicians have very very little to do with the root of the problems in this country though. Think about it in the BIG scale, what causes the problems in congress? The two party system? No, the two party system actually works quite well when you get down to it, the problems stems from how our current legislation system works.
Take a good long look at some of the Bills and Laws in Congress. There is SOOOOO much fat packed on to any one bill or law that it makes it undecipherable to you're average American... THAT is the problem. THAT is why the two party system is having so many tribulations and arguments.
Think about a new bill being passed that would only allow for one piece of business per bill. No addenda, no pork fat for special interest groups. Then watch how fast The House and Senate will work.
Long and short, we are playing by a 200 year old set of rules, and most no longer apply. The system needs to be broken down and rebuilt according to the newer age that we live in... And don't be too quick to dis the Tea Party, they have some good points. Unfortunately most of their media coverage has come from the wing nuts that should be more suited to talking about how the tornado just swept through their trailer.
And I completely agree that the electoral college needs to go the way of the Dodo. It is a useless and hopelessly outdated piece of antiquarian legislation who's original purpose has long since deceased.
Welfare should be done away with, and replaced by workfare... massive public work projects! It would also provide skill training for those who needed jobs. And bring back chain gangs... no reason why they shouldn't be doing hard labor, they broke the law, put em to work! Argument there is well they don't have enough guards to oversee the "workforce"... well Workfare just took care of that problem!
The individual elements have always been there, we've just lacked a leader with the balls to implement it all.
