That SCA meme

I've seen it attributed to attack_laurel , and I am swiping it from numerous people.

1. What is your SCA name? (You don't have to write the full name, just your first name if you want.) 

Malcolm Bowman

2. What is your home kingdom? 

East

3. Have you ever lived in another kingdom? If so, where? 

I began in Aethelmearc, but they were still a principality, then.  Visited many other kingdoms, though.

4. Do you remember your first SCA event? When/what was it? 

I thnk my first event was a Sergeants and Yeomans in Thescorre back in the fall of 1991.  But they were holding a meeting of the brewers and vintners guild, and I sat in on it, and did some drinking. 

5. Do you have any awards? (You don't have to list them if you don't want) 

AoA from Aethelmearc, Order of the Silver Crescent, Queen's order of Courtesy from Isabella II, Queen's honor of distinction from Geneviere I, Chime from the Barony of Carillion, Bronze Tower and Iron Tower from the Barony of Settmour Swamp, Captain in the LORA, and Order of the Golden Rapier.

6. Do you list them after your name in communications like e-mail? 

Only if for some reason I need to be REALLY formal, or responding to a polling.

7. Do you have a device? 

Yup.  Per saltire sable and vert, a hedgehog argent rampant to sinister.

8. Do you use it? On what? 

I have a crappy banner, and have also made stickers to place on my fencing case with it thus far.

9. Are you on all the kingdom/society lists available to you, or do you avoid them? 

Certainly not all, but many.

10. Do you keep your Pennsic/Estrella/Gulf Wars/etc. site tokens?

I have all my Pennsic tokens, and a few other choice site tokens as well.

11. Do you keep the favours you've been given by royalty/friends/SOs, etc.? Do You wear them all? 

I have most around somewhere, but I don't wear more than my household and current crown, now.

12. Do you call your friends by their SCA names even when you're not at an event? 

Depends on the person and circumstance.  More people have trouble calling me Murray over Malcolm, really.

13. Do you go out to dinner in garb after an event? 

Not anymore, so much.  I prefer not to put on a show when I just want a decent meal.

14. Do you have all kinds of garb, or do you generally stick to one period? 

Most of my garb is late period European.

15. How many interests do you have within the SCA? What's your favourite? 

Let me think....hmmmmmm...fencing, maybe?  And I do voice heraldry, archery, dance, and even some singing among other things.

16. Do you have an SCA-oriented web site (to show off projects, keep dress diaries, etc.)?

Nope.

17. Do you maintain a hairstyle that is more period style than modern? How about any other part of your appearance? 

No, my hair is such that it is largely kept from becoming a jewfro.

18. Do you tell "No $###, there I was" stories? (Admit it.) Do any of them involve well-known SCA people? 

Oh yeah, I have a few.  Been doing this 15 years now, after all.

19. Authenticity is Fun. Yes or no? Why? 

Sometimes.  Depends on the circumstances.  Sometimes it's actually obnoxious, and gets out of hand, really.

20. Is there one modern thing at events that really bugs you? 

People who don't even try to get at least reasonable garb.

Bonus Question! 21. Everyone has a shameful garb/accessory mistake hidden somewhere in their past. What's yours? (We're all friends here, we promise not to laugh. Much.) 

My original outfit was a tunic acquired at the Minnesota Renn Faire, a pair of sweat pants, a blue/black and grey knitted sash, and the knee-high tan Minnetonka Moccasin boots.
