I was reading the AP story on Yahoo how the Republicans blocked the Democrat's vote of No Confidence on the Attorney General.  Partisanship - what a shocker.  BUT this response, from the President, really puts the whole thing into perspective:

"They can have their votes of no confidence, but it's not going to make the determination about who serves in my government."

That makes it pretty clear to me.  'My government'?  Mr. President, last I checked, this is OUR government - you and yours serve at OUR pleasure.  You are supposed to represent a government 'by the people, for the people' - but you make it abundantly clear this is not so.  You serve the masters who give you the best kickbacks, or else you'd heed the voice of the people of this nation, and do something about global warming, withdraw from the civil war in Iraq that we created, and push the necessary research to get us off our dependence of oil.

Thank the Powers-that-be that this will only be your goverment for another year.  And I deeply hope your successor, no matter what party he or she comes from, remembers who it is they are supposed to be serving.

In that case... how about someone whose views of the major issues are a bit more in line with my own?

Amen, brother. This is EXACTLY how I feel.

Actually, I feel this way about most politicians, who, in my opinion, serve the lobbyists and not the people.

If they REALLY wanted to reform our government, and return it to the thing it was supposed to be, they would make term limits, thus ending Politician as a career choice...kill the electoral college system, which is horridly outmoded and outdated...take back powers granted to the executive branch over the years that have turned it from the management position it's supposed to be into this autocracy it's become.

Of course, that will never happen. It's all about the power, and those who have it like to retain it. And of course, since we are lousy studies of history, we'll be shocked when the whole system collapses. But unless it begins to change, and soon...look at Rome, people...the system is doomed.

Ironically, though, I actually believe that the collapse will be ugly, but not a complete catastrophe. I also believe that what will come next will be better, not worse.

Optimistic, I know...
