Positive Energies

fencerm2Ok folks, please bear with me - but I need to get hooky-spooky on you.
Look, there is WAY, WAY too much negativity in the air right now. Hurricane Katrina's devastation...the surreal jump in gas prices...the war in Iraq...the continued interference in places they truly do not belong by our government...the general economy...and it is only getting worse. I can barely listen to the news on NPR, or read it on Yahoo or any other source without getting angry...and further adding to the negativity.
So what do we do? We need to do things that are POSITIVE, that generate positive energies...that make people feel good, that make us feel good. It can be something small...give hugs where appropriate, give someone a card to brighten their day, smile at someone if they look like they need a smile. It can be something grand...give money to the relief effort, volunteer your time with a political campaign or homeless shelter or whatever. It can be something anonymous or personal - but anything positive we can do has the potential to spread...and right now, positive energy is desperately needed.
On a completely personal level...do something that makes you feel good. Do something fun, do something that will make you smile, and feel good about life...and don't feel guilty about doing it. Again...this sort of thing is a good type of contagious...and if we can begin to generate positive energies, we can dispel all this negativity.
This may sound crazy to some of you...but we REALLY need to change the energies, before something EVEN WORSE happens. Negative energy begets negative energy...and conversely, positive energy begets positive. Which do you prefer to see and feel?

A short story I read comes to mind. I'm positive I don't have the details right. One where some mob connected con artists set up a room with two doors to the back alley. They've rigged them so they appear to be doors to alternate dimensions. People come in, give them money to be transported to one of two possible futures.
One where world peace is set to break out in a few years.
One where things are pretty much as they are now but in a few years there will be nuclear war.
The proprietors are having a conversation and are disturbed by the number of people choosing the nuclear war option. Mostly these are crooks who want to make a killing by war profiteering. But because these people have chosen a dark door many of them will behave as if the future they have chosen will come to pass. Meaning with the future set, that social contract that maintains the tenuous peace need no longer apply, setting up a feedback loop that could lead to that very nuclear war option.
Choose to try to have your every action do good in the world and the feedback loop leads to a better world.
Enough midnight rambling for me.
