Interesting
Feb. 10th, 2012 02:34 pmYou are The Wheel of Fortune
Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success
The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.
And just out of curiosity, a couple different answers:
You are The Magician
Skill, wisdom, adaptation. Craft, cunning, depending on dignity.
Eleoquent and charismatic both verbally and in writing, you are clever, witty, inventive and persuasive.
The Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud. Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand and a medicine man - either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil.

Jan. 10th, 2012 06:26 pmVery, very happy with this story.
Nearly done reading Aleph. I will have to read more of Coelho's works.
And on a sad note - RIP Anne McCaffery. I very much enjoyed reading your Dragonriders books. Your contribution to sci-fi and fantasy will not be forgotten.

From the flist:
Spread the word, even you're not a US citizen, it is important for everyone!! It easy to do and it can change everything. More info by clicking on the banner.
Website Blocking
The government can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.
Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users
It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.
Chaos for the Internet
Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn't be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

Get on the phone and call your representative. Express your disapproval. Tell him or her exactly how you feel, and that you don't support this. Tell your friends to call their representatives, their Congressperson, and complain. Mention that you are a registered voter that takes your civic responsibility seriously and that you will use that vote to express your feelings about this.

“We support the bill’s stated goals — providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign ‘rogue’ websites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting,” the Internet companies wrote in Tuesday’s letter. “Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding U.S. Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action and technology mandates that would require monitoring of websites.” The chamber-led coalition in support of the bill includes Walmart, Eli Lilly & Co. and Netflix.
Google and other opponents of the legislation argue that restricting the Internet in the U.S. sets a bad international precedent and that the language defines infringing too broadly.
Unusual things I think about sometimes...
Oct. 6th, 2011 05:21 pmEarlier this afternoon, for no reason whatsoever, I was pondering the loss of our nation's ability to readily send people to space. The Shuttle is retired, and its replacement is not scheduled to be ready til 2015, which we all know means 2020 at the EARLIEST. Thus NASA will rely on the Russian space program and their Soyuz craft, and the likes of SpaceX and their Dragon capsule to get our astronauts to the ISS and such.
So I was thinking - rather than reinvent the wheel - why can't they just return to Apollo? I mean, the Saturn V rocket for the Apollo program is solid, the command module is a tried and tested design - and how much can it be refined if you swap out 1960's computer technology with 21st century tech?
Seriously - why the hell has no one asked this question? Why can't we just take the Apollo design, modernize it (which I bet would allow for a roomier interior in the capsule) and get this up-and-running in a year or two?
Introspection
Sep. 20th, 2011 03:31 pmPondering my OWN fears. And what to do with them. More importantly - how to deal with them. How to overcome them.

A story in 6 words
Jun. 1st, 2011 04:51 pmToday he posted a challenge to create a story in 6 words. A writing challenge I CANNOT pass up. My story:
Life is brighter than the sun
This short moment of creativity his tremendously brightened a slow moving, overly-busy work day. And its a message I can take to heart.
I had to share.
