What to write, what to write?

Ok, where DID the time go? Less than 10 days to the start of National Novel Writer's Month 2008!
A few weeks ago, I posted here asking for ideas. While some were...to be fair, more different than I wanted to go, one in particular stuck out -
weezeld suggested doing a spy-thriller techno-thriller story. I've done some of that sort of writing before, but not in a long time now. It might be a fun departure from my usual SF&F (and though he also suggested Horror, that, too, is a bit further outside my genre than I want to go).
Ok, so the genre is there - technology-spy thriller. I have a couple thoughts, but, for some reason, nothing is grabbing me. SO - LJ land, friends...plot/character/story-arc ideas solicited here!
I will credit any/all assistance. Thank you!

Date: 2008-10-24 03:01 pm (UTC)Part of the techno thriller is going to be that you are going to be forced to research some of the stuff you don't know about and weave into the fabric of the story to make it believable.. That's part of your growing exercise and getting outside your boundary. Should be lots of computers and technology and really pushing the limits of what's possible today and right around the corner.
Idea #1: Man is stopped going through airport security as a do not fly risk. He's an unassuming man and either:
A) He actually is a threat but got on the list accidentally and gets himself back off in order to do X.
B) He got on accidentally, but gets pulled into a real threat/terrorist plot by trying to get himself off
Idea #2: Woman working for American tech company is working overseas in Japan as part of their International operation. Maybe in security or design. Discovers that information about the Japanese company is being smuggled as part of the equipment shipments. Information is being used by someone(s) in America to a) blackmail b) take over company c) short sell stocks d) etc. Makes herself a target of 'elimination' as she tries to do the right thing and reveal the leak.
Idea #3: Young freedom/politcal advocate is also a white hat hacker. While working for a state voting committee on electronic voting security undercovers a corruption scheme and vote tampering. Pursued by the political bad guys as well as those who are backing them to ensure that the problems aren't fixed and the election goes off as planned.
OK back to work for me...
