"You should really stop wasting your money on rentals," sayeth my father two years or so ago. "You and your sister should purchase a two family, and build some equity for yourselves."

On paper...good plan. And you can do things like kitchen destruction and tearing things apart and so on and so forth. But then...when things break...you get to deal with those, too.

My sister's bathroom is leaking. Her tub, her sink...and it is above MY bathroom. My ceiling tiles are shot...and now, to fix the problem, the plumbers are tearing up MY bathroom to get at HER pipes. This will be fun...NOT.

They've done nearly all the damage they can do today...they'll be back tomorrow to do more. And put a hole in the wall of HER spare bedroom.

And to conclude this line of thought...only her toilet is usable. So I get to share MY bathroom with my sister and her boyfriend for at least another day, maybe 2 or 3. Oh yes...home ownership...wooo...

On a positive note - submission sent Friday, fingers crossed. And overall, my mood is better. We'll see what the future holds.

Hey there! I am the owner/landlord (was previously the tenant) of a building, and hey, I have had this thing happen TWICE in the past year: living on the ground floor, having water dripping on my head. And yes, it is a nightmare. Sure if you are renting you have to wait after the landlord to fix it (as the tenant upstairs bitched at me constantly), but you DON'T have to pay the deductable. The most recent water problem was ONLY within my own apartment and wouldn't cost much over the insurance deductable so they are coming out of pocket. I have had no sink or lights in the bathroom (still waiting for friends to help me with the plaster) since Feb. So yay, yay for being an owner/landlord. On the other hand having the renters helps pay the mortgage, and the house looks great as collateral when I see my bank lady. But really, any interior decorating I did was while I was still a tenant. Now all $ goes to maintenance instead. btw I am here from my webstats since it is my comic referred to. I believe he meant this page http://liliane.comicgenesis.com/d/20060513.html (he linked to the mainpage which changes when I update). Another funny plumbing problem/homeowner comic is here: http://liliane.comicgenesis.com/d/20050713.html Happy homeownership!! Leanne
